Story by Fraser Brown-PCGamesN

It’s been a long time coming, but Project CARS finally has a concrete release date after a slew of delays and last-minute fiddling. Bandai Namco UK made the announcement on Twitter today that the driving sim would release on May 8th.

The guaranteed release date should set fears that the game was due yet another delay to rest. Originally due out early last year, Project CARS has been pushed four or five times over the last 12 months

Last month, developer Slightly Mad Studios announced that players would receive a free car every month as a thank you for waiting through the delays

4K is passé: Project CARS will have 12K support

I can barely conceive of playing games at 4K, having neither the appropriate monitor or PC specs. 60fps at 4K is a pipe dream, for me. And the same can probably be said for most of you lovely people, too. So 12K just seems like overkill.

The 12K support seems even more ludicrous given that there are no 12K monitors. To play a game at that resolution, you’d need three, three, 4K monitors. That’s three more 4K monitors than most people have.

If this makes you worry that Project CARS is only going to be for enthusiasts who throw vast sums of money at their rigs, don’t worry. The recommended and minimum requirements – which are subject to change – have been added to the FAQ, and they are nowhere near as high as you might fear.

Minimum
•CPU – 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400, 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
•GPU – nVidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770
•RAM – 4Gb RAM, 1Gb VRAM

Recommended
•CPU – 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 3700, 4.0 GHz AMD FX-8350
•GPU – nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series
•RAM – 8Gb RAM, 2Gb VRAM

Project CARS is due out the middle of next month, unless it gets delayed for… where are we up to now? Fifth time?
