Why is this? Is there any way through manual save editing that this would be changeable?

Hey! So I accidentally ended up with waaaay too many skill points. Now, I can adjust them back down to zero (to stop the pesky notifications) but after I restart (and save) the game, it reopens saying I still have extra. Any ideas how to resolve this? Help greatly appreciated, and thanks so much.
