Looking forward to these games. One note though on the trainer request for a population cap override, this game tries to balance the enemy forces based on what you bring to the party. So if you start the mission with 50 battle cruisers expect the enemy to have a massive fleet to counter it...
On the issue of number keys being used for cheats getting in the way of unit selection perhaps a trainer lock key would be a good idea. Activate your cheats, hit the lock key, and then pressing the number keys wouldn't effect the trainer. The apostrophe or ~ keys could make good lock keys.
Just hit turn 50 and the infinite movement cheat stopped working, but population and food cheats still work. I believe vbmichael's theory may be correct, further you get into the game the more breaks.
I am using the trainer with the Sassanid Empire and have been getting the mixed results issue on the build time cheat. It seems to effect the building of the basic town in a desolated territory most, but I also see it on other buildings seemingly at random. Everything else has been working...
