The five nominees for the coveted Game of the Year award are Bloodborne, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Super Mario Maker and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt Red's open-world witching adventure topped the list with nods in seven categories, while Hideo Kojima's swan song at Konami garnered five nominations. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the publisher of both The Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight, led all publishers with 11 nominations.
A panel of judges from 32 international publications, including Polygon, selected the nominees for The Game Awards 2015. Games had to have a commercial release date on or before Nov. 24, 2015, in order to be eligible for this year's awards, which excludes some big December titles such as Just Cause 3 and Rainbow Six Siege.
The show will also give out three esports awards, the nominees for which were chosen separately by a 10-person esports-focused advisory panel. The winners in those three categories, as well as the fields of Best Fan Creation, Trending Gamer and Most Anticipated Game, will be determined by a fan vote.
The Game Awards 2015 will air at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Dec. 3, live from the Microsoft Theater (formerly the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live) in downtown Los Angeles. The show will be livestreamed on the web, including on Polygon, as well as Twitch, YouTube, Steam, the PlayStation Network, Wii U, Xbox Live and Go90. You can see the full list of nominees below, and a teaser for the show above. As usual, the broadcast will feature musical performances along with exclusive trailers for new and existing games.

Konami lawyers stopped Kojima accepting MGS 5 award sam prell games radar
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain won several awards tonight at The Game Awards, but series creator Hideo Kojima was apparently blocked from attending to receive them thanks to a business contract with Konami.
The situation between Kojima and his employer has been complicated, and though mounting evidence suggests that would be his former employer, it's not actually been outright confirmed where the two stand with regards to one another. Host Geoff Keighley called the situation "unfortunate" as the audience booed loudly over the news.
"Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight's award ceremony to accept any awards," Keighley said. "He’s still under an employment contract and it’s disappointing."
Whether he's with Konami any longer or not, Kojima's fate seems to be in their hands. For better or worse. We've reached out for comment and will let you know what, if anything, we hear back.
