I have used it that way before Terroro as well, but I've noticed that the crash that Holyhandgrenade has mentioned happens occassionally, often enough that I'd rather turn off the cheat and turn it back on to prevent the game from crashing and having to start from my last save.

For instant research it gives you 99,999 research units. Things that have more than that will sit there until you turn the cheat off. I have found if you pause the game, turn the cheat on, then turn it off, swap the research out (even for same research) and turn the cheat on, every time you turn...
