ACE Team, the chaps behind first-person weirdo brawler Zeno Clash and excellent platforming fighting game oddness Abyss Odyssey, are releasing their next game, The Deadly Tower of Monsters, on January 19th. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's a strange one, a story within a story about a 70s-style B-movie with evil alien emperors, robot friends and unpaid actors galore. A new trailer has accompanied the release date announement.
I'm a big fan of a lot of ACE Team's work, even if it's often flawed, it's always brilliant in a ton of ways. I'm less convinced by this so far, looking a little generic in how it plays and not my sort of thing in the setting and tone. But I'll pay attention, because they've always surprised me in the past.
Exactly how all this fits together, or indeed how it will play, is still mysterious. You'll clearly be able to spend time as any of the three characters, but it doesn't look like there's a co-op element in there based on the Steam page. It seems you'll be moving between levels of the tower regularly, with the rather worrying tagline of "Got vertigo? Too bad!" in search of secrets and items.
