AMD are scrapping Catalyst Control Centre, Radeon Software Crimson Edition will be your new GPU over

If you power your PC with an AMD Radeon graphics card, you’ll be quite familiar with Catalyst Control Centre. It’s the driver suite that allows you to do all the wizardry doohickey with your graphics card. It’s also the blandest piece of software known to man, looking like something Microsoft kicked out in the early 2000s. In comparison, Nvidia’s Game Ready software looks practically space aged.

Those days are over though. AMD are scrapping Catalyst Control Centre and replacing it with Radeon Software Crimson Edition.

Sporting a fancy new UI, Radeon Software comes with a suite of tools designed to be intuitive. There’s a built-in game optimiser, which searches for games installed and instructs the settings on the best configuration for your system. The Overdrive tool has been overhauled with a cleaner interface that should make tweaking individual game performance much easier.

There’s an analytic tool designed to help locate components and troubleshoot for any issues, too.

The change comes as AMD split up their processor and graphics department, creating the new Radeon Technologies Group. Radeon Software Crimson Edition should be first introduced before the end of the year.
