AMD Catalyst 15.11.1 driver out now, improves performance for Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4 & oth

Just in time to boost your frame rate in Star Wars Battlefront, AMD's latest beta display driver arrives, hands on hips, bellowing 'Ha-HA!' Like Errol Flynn. Except instead of a pair of incredibly revealing tights considering the decade, AMD's driver wears a string of unappealing numbers - say hi to Catalyst 15.11.1, everyone.

In addition to the usual generalised performance and reliability improvements that make their way into the roll call of any driver update, AMD's latest beta targets the big PC games of the quarter and promises "performance optimizations" for the following titles:

- Star Wars Battlefront

- Fallout 4

- Assassin's Creed Syndicate

- Call of Duty: Black Ops III

However, this is a beta driver and as such not perfectly polished. There are several known issues disclosed by AMD, listed below:

[80314] Assassin's Creed® Syndicate - Game cannot be launched in full screen mode on some laptop systems with an Intel processor and an AMD graphics device

[80119] Star Wars™ : Battlefront - Game cannot be launched in full screen mode on some laptop systems with an Intel processor and an AMD graphics device.

[79824] Call of Duty® : Black Ops III - Flickering may be observed when running the game in DirectX® 11 mode and with AMD Crossfire™ enabled

[59475] Elite: Dangerous - poor performance may be experienced in SuperCruise mode

[78912] A black screen may be experienced on booting Windows® 10 on some systems with switchable graphics - with AMD Radeon™ HD5000 series graphics cards, when connected to an HDMI monitor

[99999] Far Cry 4: The game may hang on launch on some AMD Radeon™ 200 and 300 series products under Windows® 7 and Windows® 8.1

Earlier this month we reported that Radeon Software would be AMD's new graphics software, replacing the old Catalyst program. Well, the first edition of Radeon Software, entitled Crimson, isnow available to download, bringing with it the all new AMD video card drivers.
AMD says that Radeon Software Crimson Edition boasts "fast high-speed game loading," "smoother gaming enhancements enabled on DirectX 9 games," "enhanced image quality for 1080p media content scaled to 4K," and "enhanced video quality settings for 6th Generation A-Series AMD APUs."

With the new software you'll be able to customize your display settings, and it also includes AMD FreeSync technology enhancements including AMD CrossFire support for DX9 games.

Internal AMD tests have seen up to 33 percent faster Star Wars Battlefront load times using the new software, up to 20 percent better performance in Fable Legends, up to 1.8x GPU power savings, and overall increased power savings of up to 23 percent. We will soon see how Radeon Software performs now it's out for the world to use..

AMD is also targeting virtual reality, and has released an alpha version of its LiquidVR SDK to selected developers. Crimson will be the first publicly available driver that enables all of LiquidVR's features.
