Following last year’s China installment, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India is the second entry in the proposed trilogy of 2.5D main series spin-offs. Today, Ubisoft released a trailer ahead of the game’s January 12 due date next week.
If you follow the graphic novel series, then you’ll likely already know that Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India takes place two years after the events of Brahman. As such, you’ll steer Arbaaz Mir around 1841 Amritsar as he strives to rescue a loved one, all the while reliant on stealth and - as will most likely be the case in my fumbling playthroughs - big and little swords. Have a gander at the latest trailer:
“A well-rounded warrior,” says the narrator. “Arbaaz is highly-skilled with weapons and a master of stealth. Your greatest weapon is your ability to move quickly and covertly: hide, climb, leap and slide your way through unpredictable surroundings.”
We’re told that our extensive arsenal of weapons and gadgetry will help Arbaaz adapt to all and any compromising situations, but the cool Dishonored-type teleporting mechanic that features after the minute mark in particular looks amusing.
When stealth fails which, if you’re anything like me it inevitably will, you can take enemies to task with CQC takedowns, swift spring-knives to opposing throats, and/or unwieldy blades through enemy backs. Lovely.
Perhaps the biggest appeal of the Chronicles spin-offs for me is the unique art style each entry boasts. The vibrant oranges and purples weaved through India’s aesthetic provide a dazzling backdrop to do all of that 2.5D platforming and merciless murder against.
Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India is due to release January 12.
