Battle.net accounts have been suspended in Crimea due to US sanctions against the country.
This means players can no longer play World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Diablo 3 and other games which require the player to be logged into Battle.net
According to The Moscow Times, other tech companies such as Apple, Google and PayPal have also suspended services in Crimea over the last year.
The notice of suspended services from Blizzard was first posted by Geektimes.ru, and reads as follows:
You are receiving this email because, in accordance with current trade regulations relating to the region of Crimea, we are legally required to suspend access to your Battle.net account.
Any recurring subscription payment will be cancelled.
We are sincerely sorry that you’re being impacted in this way; if the situation changes, we will happily do our best to restore access to your account.
In December, US President Barack Obama barred US companies from investing in Crimea or providing services. The sanctions are similar to those in the European Union. The sanctions include the export or import of “goods, services or technology to or from” Crimea.
US individuals or companies are also not allowed to buy real estate or businesses in Crimea or finance Crimean companies.
Thanks, Venture Beat.
