Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin comes to new consoles today. Is it worth playing in a post-Bloodborne world?

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is an upgraded, remixed Dark Souls 2 experience. The game comes out on all platforms, but only the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions benefit from some of the upgrades. For starters, the game bundles in all previously released DLC as well as introduce a new NPC and new lore elements.

Enemy and item placements have been tweaked. In some areas, the number of enemies have been increased thanks to the power of new consoles. But the biggest change – especially for those who only played the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the vanilla game, is the improved framerate and resolution.

The game is rendered at 1080p and runs at a mostly smooth 60fps, though the Xbox One version seems to take more framerate hits according to some early analysis. Both are nonetheless miles ahead of anything achieved on PS3 or Xbox 360.

There aren’t many reviews out yet, probably because everyone is still busy with Bloodborne.
