it doesn't sorry if you try and cast a skill it won't do it and cancel out instead

It doesn't work. If you have obtained source points legally, the skills does work normally regardless if the trainer is active or not. However, once you have depleted the legally obtained source points, the illegally obtained (trainer gained) source points does nothing. It only allows the character to perform the skills animation but does not apply its effect to the target.
