While the press and public alike still have no clear idea what happened between Hideo Kojima and Konami, one voice actor for Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes as an idea.
According to tweets from Donna Burke, who provided the voice for iDroid, upper management at Konami “fired a genius” and fans of the Metal Gear Solid series shouldn’t boycott The Phantom Pain because of it.

“Don’t throw away the Kojima team’s work over the last five years because upper management fired a genius,” she said, echoing tweets from Akio Otsuka, who provided the voice of Solid Snake in the Japanese version of the game.

Burke said it was “true” that Kojima was fired and that “it’s been out in the media for weeks.” Neither Konami nor Kojima have announced whether the split was due to Kojima quitting or whether he was indeed fired.

In response to Burke’s comments, a Konami representative told Videogamer her claim of Kojima being fired was “categorically incorrect”.

Kojima’s departure from Konami first came to light in mid-March when it was revealed his name was no longer listed on various Metal Gear Solid game packaging, the official website, or a list of executives at the company.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will release on September 1 for PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Kojima is still “100% involved” in the game’s development, but is said to be working on contractual basis.
