In addition to the mainland in the game, The Witcher 3 players will also be able to swim or sail to various islands off the coast.

Speaking in an interview with Russian news outlet Stratege.ru, Witcher 3 writer Jakub Szamalek said each island will hold its own secrets and there will be five large ones and around the same number of smaller islands to explore.

“You can not only use the boat to sail but also swim under water, opening up new areas that are inaccessible by land,” said Szamalek. “We have designed five large islands and about the same number of smaller ones, which we have not yet demonstrated in public.

“You will see a lot of interesting places to explore: ancient ruins, abandoned buildings, caves and much more. We created each of these places in a unique way for the players who want to get there.

“Some of them will be associated with Geralt’s story, while others just hide behind a lot of secrets. In general, they all carry some meaning. Our team spent a lot of time to recreate the world of Geralt and make it feel alive.

Developers at CD Projekt Red have commented on the length of their upcoming open-world RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Speaking with German site Gamereactor, they claim that speed runs of Wild Hunt have taken approximately 25 hours to complete.

This includes taking the most direct routes and skipping past all dialog options. Reportedly, it only applies to speed runs of the story and not to any additional side content found in its open world

but if you do all in the base game the game is supposed to be a 200 hour game
with a extra 30 hours if you buy the 2 announced future expansions

Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red announced two major expansions for upcoming open-world role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but the developer didn't say how much they would cost. Now we know.
Official descriptions posted on Steam, GOG.com, and the PlayStation Store reveal that the Witcher 3 Expansion Pass--which includes the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine add-ons--will cost $25.

There is no Witcher 3 Expansion Pass product page yet on Xbox.com, but you can bet it will also cost $25 on Microsoft's console.

The Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions will presumably also be sold separately, though prices for individual expansions were not announced.

Hearts of Stone will be released in October 2015, while Blood and Wine is due to launch in early 2016. Together, the expansions will add around 30 hours of gamplay
