Obsidian will be giving Pillars of Eternity players the chance to test upcoming patches in a new “patch beta testing” program. While it’ll let those who are most eager to try out fixes, and even maybe new content, the beta patches themselves do come with a catch: they can corrupt existing saves, and introduce new bugs entirely.
The process will start with patch 1.04, which will go live in the near future for those to test. Players will be able to opt into the beta patches via Steam, and eventually via GOG too once Obsidian figure out a way to process it:
“We will be doing work on the patches and they haven't gone through a full QA cycle so unexpected things can happen," stated lead producer Brandon Adler. "To be safe, I would avoid using any saved games that you do not want to get corrupted. If you do want to use those saved games, it is at your own risk.”

- Quit and restart the Steam client.
- Find Pillars of Eternity in your library, right click it and select “Properties”.
- Click on the “Betas”tab, and enter “BETAPASSWORD” into the access code field.
- Finally, select the dropdown list and select the beta program branch option.
