Resident Evil Revelations 2 no offline co-op

The one thing that was missing from the excellent PC port of Resident Evil Revelations was a co-op campaign option, offline or otherwise. It was originally designed for the 3DS, so the omission wasn’t surprising, but it did feel like a missed opportunity.

It looked like this would be rectified for the inexplicably episodic Revelations 2. Indeed, the Steam page highlights that it can be played in offline co-op as well as with an AI partner. This simply isn’t true.

From the Steam page: “Players will need to switch between the two characters (Claire/Moira, Barry/Natalia) to overcome the nightmares in either single player mode with an AI partner or offline co-op”

If you take a look now, you’ll see that this is still being advertised, despite the fact that this feature is not present in the PC version. But now Capcom has put an addendum at the bottom.

“The PC version does not support offline co-op play in the Campaign or Raid Mode.”

Offline co-op remains listed as a feature, though.

Here’s Capcom’s vague reasoning, courtesy of VG24/7:

“The decision to prioritize a single local screen was made to ensure a stable user experience across a variety of different PC settings and devices. Raid mode will support online co-op shortly after launch when a free patch is available for players to download which adds this feature, but the main campaign on PC will only be available to play in single local screen.”

It’s the platform’s fault again. Pesky PCs, not being the same across the board like their console cousins.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 may have offline co-op yet; Capcom looking into a solution ( Story By Fraser Brown)

Resident Evil Revelations 2 offline co-op update

The disappointing omission of offline co-op in Resident Evil: Revelations 2 in the PC version came to light recently, when the first episode went live and players discovered that the feature advertised on the Steam store page was no where to be seen.

Capcom’s response made it seem like offline co-op would never happen. But in the face of many frustrated customers, it looks like they are rethinking that.

Here’s what Capcom had to say yesterday:

“The decision to prioritize a single local screen was made to ensure a stable user experience across a variety of different PC settings and devices. Raid mode will support online co-op shortly after launch when a free patch is available for players to download which adds this feature, but the main campaign on PC will only be available to play in single local screen.”

They’ve changed their tune since then, and while the statement is vague, offline co-op is now being looked into, and an explanation was given for the snafu.

“We apologize to our Resident Evil Revelations 2 PC players who purchased the game and expected to have local co-op as a feature. The feature wasn’t intended for this version and that caveat was mistakenly omitted from the product description on the Steam page earlier, and then included as soon as we were made aware. This was an unintentional error and again, we apologize for the confusion this may have caused.

“We are currently looking into the matter and potential solutions and we hope to have new information to share very soon, so please stay tuned. Thank you for your patience and understanding

Resident Evil Revelations 2 now has co-op By Fraser Brown

When Resident Evil: Revelations 2’s first episode popped into existence last week without the advertised local co-op on PC, it was a bit of a disappointment. The game is essentially built for co-op, and the feature was clearly advertised on the Steam store page.

Capcom offered a vague explanation about prioritising stability, but it did nothing to alleviate the anger of players who were left without a pretty major feature that was present in other versions of the game. When the explanation didn’t work, Capcom apologised and said they were working on a solution. Less than a week later, and a local co-op beta has launched.

It’s a quick turnaround, but that also means that there might be bugs and other problems, which is why Capcom’s opened it up to testers. That and because they want people to be able to play local co-op as quickly as possible.

The co-op is for both the campaign and raid mode, and you can access it on the beta branch of the game.

Here’s what you need to do to activate the beta branch:
•From your Steam ‘LIBRARY’ list, right-click on Resident Evil Revelations 2 / Biohazard Revelations 2 and select 'Properties'
•Select the ‘BETAS’ tab.
•Type bhr2qasplitmaster00 (case-sensitive) in the 'Enter beta access code' field and then click CHECK CODE.
•Now, select "qa_split_master" from the pull-down menu and click CLOSE.
•Wait for the Steam client to finish downloading the patch.
•Launch Resident Evil Revelations 2 / Biohazard Revelations 2.

With that done, all you’ll need to do is hit start on the second controller when a game is active in campaign mode, or in the staging area in raid mode. So grab a pal and go shoot some gross virus monsters in the face.

And if this is too late and you’d rather just throw the towel in, Capcom says that you’ll be able to get a refund through Steam
