windows 10 just a heads up

tonight when i started up my pc i saw a icon in the lower right of my pc= system tray from windows this is what it looks like when opened(see picture below-link ) .Now i did sign up at a windows website like 8 months ago back when there was only a chance of this happening but which has now changed to all who meet certain requirements having the opportunity to upgrade to windows 10 .Have i recieved windows 10 yet no but this seems like it will become a reality.so just letting you know to keep a eye out for a white looking windows icon in your lower right of your system tray the icon will look like the one in the upper left corner of the picture .

PS: the picture is showing you page 2 page one had me send in my email address to confirm my interest in getting windows 10 . but i sent it in before taking a picture

one more point if and when you get this on your pc/notebook and once you have clicked the icon you will see in the upper left 3 lines that look like lines on a page click that if at some point you decide you no longer are interested in the upgrade allso it will tell you about anything you might have on your pc -notebook that is not compatable with windows 10 . there is more inside there so just have a look

now the vent i decide because i am curious that once i get windows 10 in the future that if a time happens that i would need to do a whole clean re-install of my OS would there then be a way for me to re download windows 10 upgrade say a 2nd time. so i go to a windows website and find the tech support it gave me a choice of 3 tech people to choose from and i chose the one with the highest rating and get connected to them in seconds i type out my ? only to sit there 15 minutes until i get a response that only says if i need help in the future come back nothing not one word about what i asked .
i will try to be as nice as i can but with the response i got= zero none nada zilch i get a bit upset when my choices of tech support (LOL) are 3 young foreigners that by thier pictures none looked out of high school .(hence my motto of my insanity is the only thing that keeps me sane for if i was not allready insane things like this would make me insane) ok my rant is over now i am going to go drink myself sober only problem is i do not drink

I just applied for my upgrade. as far as I know... the actual release window is in late July. I know there will be bugs and incompatibilities but I think the reason for the reservation options is to get the logs from the users and make patches for each instance of windows they are trying to update. it's better to take your time and fix individual cases than to do the "Windows Vista" Broad approach.

Microsoft has teased its upcoming Windows 10 operating system for months, and on Monday the company finally revealed the release date: July 29.

Windows 10 is Microsoft's first new operating system release since 2012's radically redesigned Windows 8, which alienated some users who preferred the classic Windows setup. Microsoft took the widespread complaints to heart: Windows 10 includes classic features like a start menu and taskbar as well as the "live tile" program icons found in Windows 8.


Overall, Windows 10 is designed to combine the "familiarity" of older Windows versions with the touchscreen-optimized Windows 8 features, Microsoft executives said during a Windows 10 preview last year.


Despite some focus on the old-school Windows features, Windows 10 represents a big strategic shift for Microsoft: It will be a free upgrade for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 users through the first year after its release, as the company announced in January.

For new users, Microsoft confirmed to NBC News on Monday that pricing will be the same for Windows 10 as it was for Windows 8.1: $119 for the consumer-focused Windows 10 Home, and $199 for the Pro version.

Microsoft had previously approached Windows like a product: something customers must buy as a one-off every time there's a new model. But the free-upgrade scheme reflects Microsoft's new positioning of Windows as a service that the company will upgrade for customers as needed over time.

Sorry, Pirates: Microsoft Says No Free Windows 10 For You -this was dated May 15-2015
Microsoft made waves in January when it announced that Windows 10, the next version of its desktop operating system, would be released as a free upgrade to anyone running Windows 7 or 8. But anyone with "non-genuine" installations of Windows, which is a nice way of saying pirated copies, will not receive that privilege.

"Non-Genuine Windows is not supported by Microsoft or a trusted partner," Terry Myerson, Microsoft's executive vice president of operating systems, explained in a blog post on Friday. He also mentioned that non-genuine Windows 10 installs will get a nice watermark on the desktop to warn you of the situation.

However, not everyone using pirated Windows software is a pirate themselves. They could easily have gotten a computer from an unlicensed dealer, or bought a used laptop on Craigslist, or otherwise been prevented from getting a "Genuine" copy. For them, there is hope, Myerson writes: "We are planning very attractive Windows 10 upgrade offers for their customers running one of their older devices in a Non-Genuine state." So if you're harboring an illicit or somehow illegitimate copy of Windows, you'll at least be able to upgrade safely.

Which of the seven versions of Windows 10 will be on offer is yet to be announced, but no matter what, it'll probably come with Candy Crush installed.

funny that now with a pretty impressive PC I still chose to run windows using the classic windows 95 menu title bars. (games run soother, no reverting settings crap and better load times....

Does anyone know if the basic free version will still run our games or will we have to pay for an upgraded version? W7 works just fine (hated 8) and I'd rather stick with it than pay for 10. MS already gets enough of my money on Xbox!

As far as I know all windows 10 versions will run games. Windows 10 is being released with their new DirectX 12. Also if you have windows 7, 8, 8.1 pro you will be upgraded to windows 10 pro. I contacted them awhile back because I couldn't find information on it. They told me if you have windows 7 through 8.1 home edition you will get windows 10 home. Also if you have Windows Media Center that will no longer be available in windows 10.

Thanks! I'm only running Win 7 Home premium but as long as the free Win 10 runs games it's worth a look. I'll keep an eye out for the consensus before jumping over seeing as we have a year to decide.

Windows 10 from my personal experience with it sucks! I hate it more then 8, & 8.1. I have the free version of it which was released to the public as Windows 10 Enterprise Edition 64Bit. Yes of course when a new OS is released, even more so by Microsoft it sucks at life! Windows 10 is another version of 8, & 8.1. It looks about the same except it has a lot less support for games & there are loads of glitches. I tried it on a few PCs & was not impressed with it. Its a real shame that Microsoft feels the need to be so damn greedy, and continue to force its users up to new Oses each year instead of making their current ones more stable & useable. Microsoft is one of the most greedy companies out there, and if there were more support for gaming on Linux I would go to Ubuntu & never look back! But it is what it is, and I doubt they will ever change with their new OSes & the high price tags on them. For now I am sticking with Windows 8.1 Pro 64Bit, and I still also have my 90 day trials of Windows 7 Enterprise as well if I decided I wanted to go back to reformatting every 90 days. Yes I know there are loaders, but its not illegal for me to reinstall the Trial where as it is if I used hacks, or loaders.

My suggestion would be to sign up for the option to have it legally threw them, but avoid it till they have worked on it more & worked out most of the bugs & kinks. I too have signed up to receive it on a few accounts for my Live IDs, but chances are I will avoid it for as long as possible.
