Just thought I'd point out that, if you don't want to undergo the hassle of grinding for gold bars, there is an alternative.
When killing enemies, they sometimes drop a card or present, the card will give you either a weapon or weapon upgrade that you don't have yet, and the present has a chance to do the same. Simply use the credits option to buy all of the weapons that require credits, then fully upgrade them, then the next time you get a card (or possibly a present, not for sure though), you'll get a gold bar weapon. Just upgrade that fully (only requires credits to upgrade), then go hunting for another card to get another weapon, and so on. Still takes a bit of grinding, but much less than going for the gold bars.
