A Pillars of Eternity patch fixing the very nasty passive abilities bug and a big pile of other issues (hats on bears!) may be out as soon as tomorrow evening (Pacific time, of course). For now, you can read about what's coming in the
"
tentative patch notes" Obsidian released today.
Let's be honest: It wouldn't be a real Obsidian game if there wasn't at least one semi-disastrous bug lurking somewhere, and losing all your passives because you double-clicked to equip an item certainly qualifies. Fortunately, the studio has a handle on it, and even better, the fix is retroactive: Opening your saved game after the patch is installed will restore your characters (and, God willing, not cause anything worse to happen).
Other "big ticket" items:
- Bears and Cats can now be equipped with hats. This is most likely not a joke... but might be a joke.
- Fixed a problem where attributes on characters could permanently increase by equipping certain items. This will also retroactively fix the problem in saved games that have characters with this issue.
- The crash in Raedric's Hold has been fixed.
- Fixed the looping audio sounds that can occur if you play with minimized tooltips.
- Previously Wizard summoned items could persist after the spell's duration. This has been fixed and it will also retroactively fix the problem in saved games that have characters with this issue.
- The items Drinking Horn of Moderation and Talisman of the Unconquerable were causing Ciphers to permanently lower their amount of focus gain. We've included a fix to retroactively resolve the issue on Ciphers but the effect is still on the items. Unfortunately the fix will not fix the broken effect on those items, so you'll need to keep those items unequipped until the next patch. If you do equip them, perform a Save/Load to fix your Cipher.
Other points of note include the addition of an antialiasing level toggle, new item icons, new voice set "reactivity"—which may only be a word at Obsidian—for various incidents, a couple dozen balance changes, quest tweaks, UI changes, and all sorts of other stuff that's really too granular to get into here. Let's face it, "fixes to Capitular glyphs in end game slides" is probably not something that most of you are sweating about.
The patch is currently in testing but, as noted by Blue's News, Rory Atadero of Obsidian said that if everything checks out, the update will probably be rolled out by end of day tomorrow, that being April 3
