Nah, I'm the same way. I feel like it's super slow gameplay wise without some aspects of the trainer on. Mostly the fast research.

For anyone hanging for the trainer (until it gets updated) go to the Stellaris workshop and install 'Stellar Cheats' Mod. It provides edicts that fulfil some of the trainer functions in the meantime.

You need to get good son. Trainers just makes the first few years of the game more bearable, at least that's how I used it.
